Celebrex is a brand name for the medication Celecoxib used to decrease the hormones provoking inflammation and pain in the human body. Celecoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated to cure the inflammatory conditions or pain caused by different diseases such as ankylosing spondyllitis, menstrual pain, other pains, arthritis and hereditary polyps in the colon.

Celebrex is available in the following dosage forms and strengths:
Capsules of 50, 100, 200 and 400 mg of Celecoxib.

The medication should be used in the lowest effective doses to achieve the necessary effect in each individual patient. The doctor will take into consideration all the pros and cons of the treatment with this medication before prescribing it.
The dosage depends on the individual condition of a patient, besides the period of time of treatment with this medication should be carefully estimated by the doctor.
Celebrex may be taken with or without food. To treat osteoarthritis the recommended dose is 200mg a day (taken in 100 mg doses twice a day).
To relieve signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis it is recommended to take up to 200 mg two times a day.
To manage Juvenile Rheumatoid arthritis it is usually advised to use the medication based on the weight of a pediatric patient (older than 2 years). For patients between 10 and 25 kg the dose is 50 mg twice a day.
For patients over 25 kg, the dose is 100 twice a day.
To relieve symptoms of Ankylosing Spondylitis the common dose of Celebrex is 200 mg taken daily once a day (or twice a day in devided doses). If no effect occurs, the dose is enlarged to 400 mg daily.
To manage Acute Pain and Primary Dysmenorrhea the initial dose of the medication is 400 mg a day, then 200 mg on the first day if necessary. On the following days the dose is decreased to 200 mg twice a day.
Celebrex is a serious medicine that should not be taken on your own decision especially if you have other serious conditions such as heart disorders, liver or kidney impairment. Serious side effects of this medicine on the stomach or intestines such as perforation or bleeding may lead to death. Geriatric patients should be especially careful to their condition while using Celebrex.
Certain conditions contradict with Celebrex, they include:
